Animal Reiki Treatment - what to expect

The ‘Let Animals Lead’® method is the approach our reiki practitioner uses.  This has far been the most successful way in offering animals the choice and freedom to choose how they wish to receive reiki.

The treatment may consist of a placement of hands on the body and/or your animal may prefer to come and go from the reiki space created.  Your animal may just stand, sit or lie down near the practitioner.  They may start to yawn and show signs of relaxation. Should your animal choose to have hands on, this is their choice it is never forced, it is all up to your animal and the healing is still received the same.

Should your animal have medical needs, you should always gain your Veterinary Practice’s permission, reiki should never be used instead of conventional medical care.

On Site

Your animals are most comfortable when they are in their familiar environment.  This could be in your home, barn or pasture.

It is not uncommon for you, the animal’s caregiver, to also share the reiki space of healing, for example through having a chair treatment, with your animal in the same area.  You will be seated whilst your animal is free to place themselves where they wish.  Or you can join through a guided meditation whilst the session for your animal is also taking place.  The meditation is designed to settle the body and mind and will assist in opening the heart connection of compassion.  Both options give you the opportunity to understand the reiki treatment and to participate with your animal, should you wish.  Or the treatment can be just between your animal and the practitioner.

As we continue the session, the reiki practitioner will focus on creating a sacred space of healing.  You may choose to stay and sit in this space or you may quietly move away to limit distractions.

A session can be booked for 30 minutes or 1 hour.  The time allocated will involve any discussions held with you before and after the treatment.

After the session has completed, the reiki practitioner will speak with you to share any insight given during the treatment.

Distant/Remote

We are all connected via energy and we ourselves use this, such as when we get a feeling about something or some intuition about a person or place.  Reiki uses this flow and does not require the practitioner to be in the same physical location as the animal and their companions.

You are also welcome to sit in the reiki space with your animal during the distant treatment for as long as you wish.

After the session has completed, the reiki practitioner will contact you to share any insight given during the treatment.

Session/Treatment timings

Should you be unsure which session time to use, we have some guidance below.

30 minute session; is a wonderful way to introduce an animal to the art of reiki.  If you are new to reiki yourself you may be more comfortable with an initial session being shorter.  This could then possibly be extended to an hour whilst on site or if inconvenient, a further longer session could be booked.

One hour session; this is an excellent amount of time to enable your animal to feel restful and relaxed.  Animals are deeply connected and they feel the energy around them and to the energy with their companions.  This length of time will show and help the animals fully harmonise with the reiki space created.

4 consecutive sessions;

It can be particularly useful to have four 30 minute sessions, in close succession, for any animal who is anxious, fearful or aggressive.  These animals need to have such time and consistency to enable trust.  Once trust has been built, they can begin to relax into the reiki energy and receive the comfort they need.

It can also be particularly beneficial for recovery after surgery, post trauma and/or chronic illnesses.

Any session timings can be discussed with the reiki practitioner when making your initial appointment.

Important information

Please note, reiki is not a substitute for veterinary care.  If your animal is injured or ill, always consult with your veterinary practice as soon as possible.  Reiki is a fantastic support to conventional medical treatment and to work alongside further holistic modalities.

We share reiki with them, but in my experience, I know that I’m probably going to receive even more healing than I can offer, because animals are so amazing in that way.
