about animal reiki

Reiki is an ancient healing system which was rediscovered by Mikao Usui from Japan in the early 20th Century.  Reiki is a holistic therapy that treats the body, mind and soul.

The name is pronounced as ‘Ray-Key’.  Rei meaning ‘spirit’ and Ki meaning ‘energy’.  Reiki can also be translated as ‘universal life energy’.  As quantum physics tells us, all matter is energy.  When we breakdown the smallest of particles, there is only energy.  This energy flows through all living beings.

Reiki is a non invasive complementary therapy for health and well-being.  It is powerful and yet a gentle way to assist the body’s own healing process.  This is why reiki is a great supportive treatment to work alongside your own veterinary practice animal’s health plan.  Reiki is also a wonderful way to maintain your animal’s well-being throughout their life.

As Reiki practitioners we create a quiet, safe space of peace.  All animals are sensitive to this energy flow and recognise our intent to share this space.  They have the choice to receive whatever healing they need most at that time of any session.  We connect with the flow of energy which is a loving, compassionate energy that opens our heart to heart connection.  This brings comfort to the physical, mental and emotional well-being of all animals.

WHY REIKI FOR ANIMALS

Animals communicate on a different level to us humans.  They have a deeper sense to energy and can easily detect our own energy.  I am sure your animal has come to you in time of need, they just seem to know.  We work so hard being caregivers to our animals we sometimes forget they too can show us important ways to stay healthy and happy.  Animals don’t have the same mindset as us humans and don’t become entangled in the day to day.  Reiki will go to the issue that needs it most, even issues we may not understand.

Reiki treatments are affective for animals suffering anxiety or fear as this helps them to trust, relax and rest.  Animals are deeply connected to their surroundings and they too can experience emotional trauma from losing a loved one, loss of a friend, moving home or from being in a shelter/rescue centre environment.

If your animal is suffering from physical pain, recovering from surgery or illness, reiki will help sooth symptoms and enable their bodies to rest and recoup.

Reiki is known to also help animals become more relaxed and open to receive further therapies such as physiotherapy or hydrotherapy, so if your animal is fearful of people or anxious, reiki treatments can benefit in the first instance.

Reiki can do no harm to either recipient or practitioner.

An example of benefits for animals are:

  • Accelerate healing in sick, injured or recovering from surgery.

  • Help reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Induce relaxation and stress relief.  Ideal also for shelter/rescue facilities.

  • Lessen the side effects of other medical treatments.

In the energetic space of healing, signs of inner peace and relaxation take place.  Reiki treatments can also be beneficial for you, the animals’ caregiver.  By receiving a treatment with your animal, we create a peaceful, light space of healing for all.

By simply relaxing, being quiet, breathing and having a heartfelt intention to help another being, you create a sacred space.  In this space, all things are possible.
