How animal reiki can support the passing of a loved one

It is coming up to one year since our ‘Lilly’ passed over the rainbow bridge.  When our first boy ‘Ike’ passed, my partner and I learnt how not to handle this situation in future for any of our future fur babies transition.

Lilly (Lilpil, Lilian, Lillypilly) was 16 & 1/2 years young and was suddenly diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis.  Lilly would have good days and bad days, the good was her eating and walking around little, as well as resting peacefully.  The bad was her not eating or drinking and sleeping most or all of the day.

When your loved one is ill you feel so many different things, hope, anxiety and fear just naming a few.  As well as Lilly having veterinary care I was able to support myself and Lilly with animal reiki.  Being so close to your own fur baby can be difficult to offer reiki, even if you are a practitioner and/or teacher of animal reiki.  Your own fears and thoughts can get in the way.  This is why I would recommend asking another animal reiki practitioner to help you and your loving animal in these type of circumstances.

When I offered Lilly reiki, she would stretch right out and really relaxed into the space.  This felt amazing as I was able to offer her comfort during these difficult times.  She also knew this was healing for me to, so our sessions were very sacred to us both.

Lilly’s condition deteriorated.  On 26th February 2019 we knew she was nearing the end of her life.

We called our veterinary practice, who had been very good throughout the last few weeks, that we knew Lilly’s time was coming to an end.  They agreed to visit our cottage early hours of that evening.  My partner and I had time in the garden with Lilly and though it was winter in the UK it didn’t matter as the sun was out with blue skies and she loved the outdoors.  My partner and I gave her hugs and kisses listening to the birds in our garden.

When our vet and nurse came to our home to help Lilly pass into spirit, they were very thoughtful and respectful.  I was able to hold our baby girl in my arms during her transition giving her constant kisses and telling her ‘I loved her’ continuously as tears streamed down my face.  In these moments we all had a sense of calm and peace.  My partner and I even called her transition beautiful.  I do believe having practised animal reiki for a number of years, the strength and gratitude I felt at that moment and after certainly helped me through her passing on this day and for a time after.

I am so grateful to Lilly for; blessing me, teaching me, being by my side in the garden or in our bed, meeting me at the bottom of our drive after I finished work and having conversations with me, which could last for quite a while, and for accepting and caring for her little adopted sister.

Lilly is one of my spiritual teachers and I know why her time was then. I appreciate all our time together.  Many blessings Lilly and to all of us animal parents/caregivers.  We care for you and love you as part of our family and you give us so much more in return.  When the time comes for your loved ones to pass into spirit, try to remember it is not goodbye.  Remember the good times and feel the gratitude fill you up with love and light.

We are always learning and there is more support for you and your loving animals with animal reiki.  Should this resonate with you, by all means check out my site for more information.  I also have classes if you would like to learn about animal reiki and I have details of available treatments you may wish to try with your loving animals.

Many blessings, Sam
